I loved the TV show so I started reading the books. (But just FYI: the TV show and the books differ considerably).
They are an easy, simple and entertaining set of books. This is contrary to my usual preferred style (like George RR Martin's books which have scores of characters and dozens of simultaneous plots). But it means you can fly through them really quick and without much thinking involved.
They are most definitely written for women though. It's first-person from a woman's perspective, and there is a lot of gratuitous sex scenes, and theres a touch of romance in there too (though the sex/romance doesn't overshadow the fun plot imo).
I normally wouldn't have read them at all. But I liked the show so much I wanted hints at where it might be heading, and so I persevered. And of course I can't leave a series unfinished so I just rolled through them all!
Judgement: It's a fun read, lots of interesting things happen. I think the authors take on the supernatural (which goes above and beyond the television show!) is really fantastic. The sex/romantic parts are a little silly to me, but I was able to speed through them and still enjoy the underlaying story.
